Project founder Sameeksha Agarwal is a student at the RP Goenka International School in Kolkata, where she is currently pursuing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. She studies Mathematics AI, Economics, and Computer Science at the Higher Level, subjects through which she enjoys learning about how data and policy can influence real-world outcomes, particularly within the space of sustainable development.
Beyond academics, Sameeksha has studied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning fundamentals at the National University of Singapore and completed coursework in strategic management and innovation through Copenhagen Business School. At school, she also serves on the student council, as class coordinator. Outside the classroom, she spends her time playing sports like table tennis and basketball; experiences that have helped her develop teamwork, discipline, and consistency.
At the same time, growing up in Kolkata, she became increasingly aware of how the city’s intense summer heat shapes everyday routines, especially in densely built neighbourhoods. Over time, this curiosity, combined with her interest in sustainability is what led her to begin exploring the issue more closely. The Heat Index - Kolkata (THInK) grew out of this very curiosity. Through her project, Sameeksha hopes to better understand how heat affects vulnerable communities in her city and contribute, in a small but meaningful way, to conversations around awareness and resilience related to it. In Sameeksha’s words, THInK reflects a simple starting point: taking the time to think more carefully about the environments we live in and the people most affected by them.
